ONE WOMAN SHOW “GOLDA MEIR: FROM POGROM TO PRIME MINISTER”

JANUARY 22, 2012, at 2 pm

Burien Little Theatre is partnering with the Highline Historical Society to bring Joan Wolfberg’s inspiring one-woman show about the life and times of former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir to Burien Little Theatre’s stage.  The performance at Burien Little Theatre is scheduled for Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 2 p.m.

“Golda Meir: From Pogrom to Prime Minister” was developed by Joan Wolfberg, a professional actress and Chautauqua Scholar, along with a one-woman show about Eleanor Roosevelt.

As a child, Golda Meir, knowing the fear of pogroms in Russia, dreamed of a homeland for her people in Palestine. Her dream became a reality in 1921. Golda’s continued commitment to her land and to her people was the paragon of human dedication. Her complete involvement, tempered with love, fired by fierce devotion, and a wonderful sense of humor, caused the world to know that she was a true mover of mountains.

Professional actress and Chautauqua scholar Joan Wolfberg, as Golda, takes you from the pogroms of Russia, to Milwaukee, to Denver, to Palestine–and finally to “life in state of our own,” Israel, as Prime Minister. Joan as Golda recounts the famous woman’s history, feelings and beliefs about the world, her work and impact on our lives.

Delighting audiences with her compelling portrayals of famous women, Joan Wolfberg has traveled throughout the country for the past decade, weaving a tapestry of drama and history into an educational, entertaining and inspirational tale.

The performance lasts about an hour. Afterward, in true Chautauqua style, Joan stays in character, and answers questions posed to her about Golda and her life for about 15 to 20 minutes.

General admission is $5 at the door. Admission is free to Highline Heritage Museum members upon presentation of membership card.
