On Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Arouet and Burien Actors Theatre present Arouet’s free staged reading of “The Brick and the Rose,” a play written by Lewis John Carlino.
Directed by Dani Dodge, “The Brick and the Rose” is written as a collage for voices. Ten actors portray 47 characters in Tommy’s life journey from his birth to his death.
Tommy grows up in the slums and thinks differently from his peers, constantly searching for something in contrast to the cold, rough city. In his search, he witnesses street violence, drug use, and touches of beauty.
The free performance at Burien Actors Theatre is geared to ages 15+ because it includes discussion of neglect, drug abuse and violence. Sponsors of the Burien performance are the City of Burien and Williams Helde Marketing Communications. “The Brick and the Rose” is being presented as part of Arts Crush, 31 days of creative adventures throughout Puget Sound.
