BAT lives, literally, on the kindness of others. It is only because of BAT’s wonderful donors that BAT can function.
This week BAT received a check in the amount of $437.00. Not only was it wonderful to receive such a check, it was from a retirement fund. What that tells us is that someone gave up part of their retirement to help BAT. Sometimes it is humbling.
In this case, the donor called BAT a few days before the check arrived. The donor said that a check they hoped to have sent BAT had been returned because it was mis-addressed and they were looking for the correct address. They explained the funds were from their retirement fund. This gave me a chance to personally thank the donors and talk to them a bit. That was a treat.
It makes BAT so very happy to receive support like this. A day like any other suddenly overwhelms BAT with joy. It is a compliment, in deed, when you receive a donation. You get the idea what you are doing is important to others. And it does not take $437.00 to make BAT feel loved. Rounding up an on-line ticket purchase does the same thing, as does a $5.00 or $10.00 check or online donation.
BAT does have a spacial bottle of sparkling wine waiting for its first $25,000.00 to $50,000.00 donation, but that does not take anything away from the joy provided by a lessor amount. My guess is that when BAT receives that $25,000.00 to $50,000.00 donation it will mean as much to the donor as many of BAT’s $5.00 and $10.00 donations do to those donors. Give according to your means: BAT celebrates any amount.
I looked into the effects of giving. All my research, and person experience, says that giving makes the giver feel better. Knowing you are supporting something worthwhile brings internal joy that cannot be replicated by anything else you do. Your action makes wonderful things happen!
As BAT prepares for ‘I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” your gift makes the work a little easier.
